In order to control who can access your wireless network, your computer must take the role of the Internet Router and need to be connected to the Internet directly (rather then through your wireless router). Your computer also needs to be connected to the wireless access point in order to receive connection from users over a wireless network.
Tip: Wireless routers are easily converted into access points, by disabling their DHCP server and not using the router Internet Port (some times also referred to also as WAN Port).
If you will not disable DHCP in your wireless router, your Hotspot will not work.
There are various methods to configure your network. There
are examples for some of these methods here to make it simpler to you to use
equipment that is already available. If none of the examples works for you will
need to purchase the missing items, which might be a network card, a wireless
card or an access point / wireless router.
Using the first example is
preferred, unless you have only a single Ethernet LAN port. If you have only one
port, you should look at the second example if you have a DSL broadband
connection (may also apply for some cable users), or the third example if you
are a cable or DSL subscriber.
Example 2: Two LAN (Ethernet) connections
Example 3: PPPoE Internet Connection and LAN(Ethernet) Private Connection
Example 4: LAN (USB) Internet Connection and LAN (Ethernet) Private Connection
