Step 2 – Configure Internet Connection Sharing

The next step is to configure Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).  ICS is a feature of Microsoft Windows to share Internet connection between multiple computers. ICS uses the 2hotspot controller to send unauthorized users to your portal page for login.

Note: Generally there is no reason not to use ICS. If you are running a commercial level hotspot and your ISP provide you with a range of routable IP address to be used by your hotspot customers, you should not use ICS. Instead, please refer to design consideration for large scale hotspots.

1.   Open Network Connections, right click Internet Connection, and click Properties.

Note: To open Network Connections, click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.

1.   Click the Advanced tab

2.   Enable Allow other network user to connect through this computer…

Note:  If you have three or more network adapters you will also see below this checkbox, a list box stating: Select a private network connection. You need to click on this list box and select the Private Connection you prepared in step 1.

3.   Click OK.
