Step 4 – Install and configure the 2hotspot controller

The 2hotspot controller is the software component that control who can access the Hotspot.

1.   Run the installation by double clicking  on the 2hotspot controller Install utility you have downloaded.

2.   Follow instructions of the installation utility. When prompted, change Microsoft Windows driver signing to Ignore, or if you have not done so click continue anyway when Microsoft Windows XP compatibility warning is displayed.

Beta Version Note: One of the components of the 2hotspot controller is a Microsoft Windows device driver. Since the current version of the 2hotspot controller is still under continuous development, the device driver has not been submitted to Microsoft for driver signing yet.
To simplify your installation experience for the unsigned driver, during the installation of the 2hotspot controller you will be prompted to change Microsoft Windows driver signing warnings to Ignore, if you choose not change these settings, multiple warnings will be displayed during the driver installation.  If you see these warnings, click continue anyway each time a warning is displayed.

Tip: To uninstall the 2hotspot controller, click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, click OK, wait for the application list to fill, then scroll down to 2hotspot controller, and click Remove. You need to restart your PC to complete the uninstall.

Beta Version Note: To protect your system integrity the 2hotspot controller installation program will automatically create a restore point prior to 2hotspot controller installation.

To access system restore from the Start Menu click  All Programs Accessories System Tools System Restore. When the system restore menu appears, click Next, select the date of the 2hotspot controller installation, then select the restore point created by 2hotspot controller installation then click Next, and then click Next again.

3.   When installation is finished, a browser window is launched and you are asked to login or register at the Location Management Portal. Follow the wizard instructions, to configure your first network or join an existing network.

4.   After you have joined a network you will see your 2hotspot controller listed as a location in the network locations list. Check the 2hotspot controller system tray icon, and verify that it has changed from Offline  to Online , and shows that it is connected to the network you just created.

Beta Version Note: If you are using firewall or NAT router, then ports 8005 & 8006 should be opened in the firewall or mapped to 2hotspot controller device in the NAT router.
Microsoft Windows firewall and UPnP enabled NAT routers, are automatically configured by the 2hotspot controller.

Tip:   It is possible that the 2hotspot controller will be located behind a NAT device but it is not recommended.
Microsoft Windows Internet Connection Sharing is already performing NAT functions for your hotspot users, having an additional NAT device, will inhibit UPnP to function properly and some Internet service (like video conferencing or advanced features of Microsoft Windows messenger) will not be available to your hotspot users.

When you enable Microsoft Windows Firewall, you also protect the computers of your hotspot users. Firewalls might also block legitimate traffic, like online games.

Congratulations! At this stage you should be ready to test your Hotspot. From you test machine, connect to the wireless network and launch a web browser to sign-up to your hotspot.
